Hi, I'm a recent SAAB to Volvo convert. I bought a 1998 XC70 for my wife with 121,000 miles for $1800. The car hasn't had the timing belt done, so that's on the top of my list for immediate maintenance.

My question, is are there any other components that should be updated/repaired at the same time? Also are there problems that are common to that year that I might be on the lookout for?

Check the water pump.
Also make sure the idler and tensioner pulley is replaced as well.

 

I have idler and tensioner on the list too. I keep reading about ETS failures, kinda freaking me out looking at the cost of repair.
