Default What to do?

The car is a 2006 XC70 with 194,000 miles on non-salted roads.

The mechanic just diagnosed the mis-firing as a broken valve on cylinder number 2. He states it will be $5500 to $6000 repair but doesn't recommend it.

The car body is in great shape with no rust, dents, etc. The interior is in great shape as well with one small area of wear on the driver's seat leather. The tires are BFG KO II's and are in great shape.

What do you all recommend we do? Sell it to a junk yard and just move on?

TIA,
BWSwede

Do you have a budget?

Get another quote. Engines are available. It could be just the head needs replacement / refurb / repair?

Thanks for the reply and suggestion. Now that we have purchased a new used car to replace the damaged one, I have time to consider what to do with the damaged one.

Almost 2 weeks on! What are you thinking of doing?

Are you anywhere near Northern New Jersey? There's a good Volvo shop in Caldwell.

I am still thinking. It the meantime, since we needed a car immediately we went out and bought a 2022 XC60. After driving it for a couple weeks we found that we didn't enjoy it like we did our 2006 XC70. Mostly due to the touch-screen (we are in our mid-60's) and the need to reset the computer every week or so. Frustrated with that car we purchased a 2016 XC70 and we are very happy it except for the Harmon Kardon audio system. It doesn't hold a candle to the system in our dead 2006.

Currently our hands are full getting the XC60 sold and the SC70 serviced by Carmax under their 30 day warranty agreement.

Unfortunately, we about as far away from NJ as you can get while still being in the lower 48.
