What's the best year for a used XC70 2001-2005?
Dear Volvo and XC70 owners/aficionados,
i am about to part from my 1992 volvo 240DL Wagon:-(
as a replacement i am oriented towards XC70. having a budget of 10K max the newest year i can find is 2004 with around 200K km. for less money other options are 2001-2002 models with 150-170K km on them. I have been trying to find honest review about the different model produced during 2001-2004 and decide what's best. Any help will be much appreciated.
Thank you in advance for the attention.

i just bought a 2002 xc(t44)with 142k and it runs like a champ. all i had to do was replace the rotors and pads. the check engine light came on, but it was because i didnt tighten the gas cap enough. tightened it, reset, and it went off. hasnt come back on. get a stick or manumatic to enjoy it the way its meant to be enjoyed.
as far as i hear 03 and up were the better of the years to have an xc70, they had a lot less tranny issues vs 01-02, i would shop for a 03+ if i were you and you want to avoid tranny issues down the road.
Most will say that 03+ is better (less trans issues and Haldex AWD as opposed to Viscous Coupling). That being said our 02 (10/01 build date) has been bulletproof for the last 70k and now has 117k on it, original trans, etc
