05' XC90 won't leave park
Hello ALL,
Thanks for creating this site - lots of valuable information here. I want to pick your brains. I have a XC90 2005 that will not leave park. Throughout all my reasearch on this site I found 2 common problems.
1. Shifter **** could be broken and failing to pull the rod high enough to release
2. Lots of soda dumped by shifter mechanism and not allowing the turning of key to free-up its 2nd lock.
I have checked and cleaned everything and determined that these are not the culprits.
I did remember when I went to have it towed home that (with a dead battery) with no electrical power running thru everything, I could shift into any gear I chose. So I disconnected the battery and I could shift. Then I went to back of the Shifting mechanism and disconnected the electrical plug at back of shifter and reconnected battery. NOW, the vehicle starts and shifts at the shifter BUT the vehicle is not changing gears at the transmission. SO, as I accelerate, the vehicle doesn't move.
My question: What would you do next? look for solenoid? what could be the culprit?
PLEASE HELP!!! If you have read this far...Thanks!
Robert

Let me google that for you
If you click on the above link, That is what I am jumping onto, as a causal reason for your issue. I had troubles the other way, I could not get it out of drive. into neutral. It is a inexpensive fix, I got mine off of amazon, I just haven't gotten to that yet, (my car hasn't been drive since March.) The above link is a safe link. the even spell it out for you, its nice. Hope that helps.
I found the claw pieces under the gear shifter, as I pulled the kick panels off the sides when I pulled out the carpeting, (sunroof leaked). and seen the yellow claw part sitting there broken.

From YouTube, doesn't discuss the claw, which is what I need to know, (as well everything this guy did)
