Default 06-xc90 t5

I'm a two time Volvo owner (2-V70 wagons). We had great luck with both of them. We're looking at getting a XC90 to cart around additional kids. I know and have read all of the reports on the T6's and the transmission issues; what's the verdict on the T5? I checked consumer reports and it looks like the 06 T5 is one of better if not the best pick in the reliability category (for XC90's). A relative runs one of the best used car dealers in town and has a nice 06' T5 with 37K on the clock.

Thoughts? It seams as though the crowd here is very passionate either one way or the other towards these trucks. Is the majority of the negative publicity the XC90 gets from the T6 combo?

Thanks for helping out an XC90 Newbie

The t5 is a solid car. The t6 does have its problems. Check out a v8, there also pretty reliable.

I am just going by what I have read and the only thing I have read about the T5 is that it is reliable, but a little under powered. When I was looking I was look for a tow vehicle though and that is why I stayed away from the T5. I heard the 3.4L is pretty good though.

I have a '06 2.5T--since new. I bought it out after a 3 yr lease, because I basically was happy with it. Very reliable so far. Couple minor issues, but hey, it's a machine.
I don't tow, so power is adequate.

Can't discount the safety of this vehicle (feels like a tank--in a good way), esp if you're hauling precious cargo.
The 3rd row seating is adequate, with still a little room for luggage behind that. (compared to Acura MDX, much roomier feel and definitely more luggage space).

I say go for it.

btw, I'm not passionate about the XC90. My Porsche?--YES.
But the XC90 is a good daily driver/hauler/truck/safe family vehicle.

I once had a 1980 Porsche 911SC in Guards Red. I once told a Porsche mechanic that I would sell the Porsche before I would ever sell my 850 Turbo and when times got tough and I was out of work the Porsche went along with the Travel Trailer and the Suburban, but never my Volvos unless being replaced by another Volvo.
