Anyone know if it's possible to install the wider rear skid plate that comes on the 2007 onwards XC90 onto a 2006 XC90 (V8). I like the wider look of the 2007 onwards skid plate vs the shorter one that is available for the 2006 & older XC90.

From looking at pictures online, it appears the 2007 and 2006 XC90's have the same rear bumpers, so I'm thinking it should be doable? The cutout for the exhaust tips seems to be in the same location as well. Has anyone done this install on a 2006 of older XC90?

 

No, it's not possible, rear bumper is shaped differently, so a 07 skid plate would'nt match 06 bumper. Remember I've read on other forum (don't remember on which one right now) that someone has succesfully replaced a whole 07 bumper on an older XC90. Alternatively, there is on ebay a custom rear skid plate (similar to the 07 one) for 03-06 XC90: http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/03-05...d=p3911.c0.m14

 

Funny, I just purchased the '06 skid plate from my Volvo dealer this afternoon (have not installed it yet). They also confirmed that the skid plate for the 2007+ XC90 would not fit on my 2006.

But I must say, I really like the one that you found on Ebay, it is much more like the 2007 model skid plate. The only question is though, can this Ebay one be installed on a 2006 XC90? From looking at the auction description, it says it fits a 2003 - 2005 XC90. Do they have a different bumper than the 2006 XC90? I thought they were the same? If I can confirm it fits, I'm going to return the one I bought today to Volvo.

 

XC90 facelift was introduced somewhere about mid 2006, so basicaly there are only two type of rear bumpers, older-prefacelift and newer. That ebay skid plate will fit the older bumper for sure. Hope this helps.
