Default 2004 xc90 t6

Having a problem with a 2004 XC90 T6. Took it to the nearest Volvo dealer
3.5 hr drive away and spent $1500.00 and they still don't know what the problem is.

Runs very rough at idle but ok at higher speeds. Check engine light comes on and produces codes P0300 - multiple cylinder misfires, code P0301, 0303 and 0302 - Misfires on cylinders 1, 3 and 2. Also code P0130 - O2 sensor bank 1

Any info on most probable cause greatly appreciated.

Thanks

Ken

Hello Ken from Canada. I too have a 2004 XC 90 T6 AWD and am just now hearing from my dealer that I have to replace an entire transmission, Prior to this, there was a delay between depressing the accelerator and the actual engagement of the transmission, Eventually, the transmission lost it's lowest gears and had difficulty reaching 60 kms (45 mph). After reaching this speed, it seemed fine in higher gears. Anyway, I hope it's not a transmission replacement issue.

It does not appear from the codes to be a transmission problem and the rough idle happens even in neutral. Since it misfires on several cylinders, I am leaning towards a air or gas problem but not really sure where to be looking. Volvo mechanics not sure either, so I am hoping to find some suggestions here.

Thanks

Ken

I'm resurrecting this thread because I'm having the exact same problem on my 03 T6. Anybody know what causes this. I replaced the crankshaft position sensor which helped a little. But still have stumbling and generally rough idle.

Any one knows if there is a cheaper way to installing a drive shaft. Dealer says it needs to be replaced but I think can change the motor mounts and possible the u joints

Well first off check the fuses!!!!! 2nd check the wires that go under ther cover on top of the engine. those wires are commonly pinched between the cover and grounding out causin a misfire. most of all never count on a volvo coil THEY ARE THE DEVIL AND WILL SEND YOU ROUND AND ROUND!!!!!!!!!

Thanks for the suggestions, will check the wiring. Wasn't really looking at the coils because it was showing four of them misfiring. What are the odds of that happening?

There is a Technical Bulletin 21-21 that sounds similar to your problem. I could not get the specifics. Good Luck...

Guys I can't even get it to start now. It cranks but wont run. I've replaced the crank position sensor, spark plugs, cleaned maf. I can hear the fuel pumps run and I've tried to get it to start with starting fluid with no luck. So, I'm assuming it's not a fuel problem. I'm going to put a fuel gauge on it and find out for sure. Temp readings look ok when I check it with my scanner. Is there any other sensors that affect the ignition coils working?

Any help would greatly be appreciated at this point. Nearest Volvo dealer is 200 miles away.

Just an FYI for anyopne else going through this. It turned out to be a loose ignition coil ground wire. Theres two or three grounds on top of the head. Unless I physically wiggled each of the wires I would never have found it. Sanded the contacts clean, tightened it up, and it runs like new.
