Hello everyone I just bought a 05 XC 90 at a tow yard auction it starts right up purrs like a kitten when I **** it reads oN the dash that it shifts but only pArk and neutral could the tow driver unhooked something to tow it car has 103 thousand miles on it thank you for any ideas

 

Which engine? T5, T6, or v8?

If it's a T6 - that engine uses the known to fail GM transmission - could be the reason the car does not move. (and was for sale "as is" at the tow yard auction)

 

It is a T6 AWD & It was sold as is. The Shifter cable end that changes Gears at Transmission it is located under the Air box that holds the Air Filter it looks like it is crooked like it is almost off kinda . Could that have any affect with it?

 

Looks like this in the service manual. If there's a problem with the cable you can move the lever on the trans manually.

 

 

I attached pictures of the shifter cable. The arm moves and Idle changes it says that it changes gear on the dash but it doesn't move. There are no warnings and check engine light is not on. There is no grinding noise.

 

Cool - sounds like (if there is oil in the trans) - that the reason the car was at auction is that the transmission was bad, Sorry - Let us know if you find something else!
