Default about xc90 timing belt .

so I'm the guy with the 06 xc90 2.5 .
My timing belt snapped and that's that . however , I'm a stubborn Taurus and before I get rid of a 4,000 dollar Volvo I want to at least attempt to throw a new belt on there .

If it won't do anything , absolutely ill move on but I want to see with my own eyes .

Does anyone know why a factory timing belt is not fitting on there .
Cams , and crank all rotated mostly ok back into alignment .
I'm wondering if the guy we bought it from had his mechanics mismatch other model Volvo
parts just to get it running.

My cams are not locking up and are allowing at least 3 inches both directions of free
play to allow belt slack , everything went back in time but no matter what I do
The factory belt ment for it is not working. I barely have only 1 inch and can't fit back on
the tentioner at all. Also , its an 06 , but the pulley says 07 .

Could someone have used different size cam sprockets from a different model.

I clearly need at least 4 more inches minimum .

Does anyone know what I could do to find a similar belt , but 4 to 6 inches longer .

everyone telling me the Volvo is toast is probably right ,
its just that I want to try what I can ,
Then if its a no go absolutely , goodbye to the volvo.

Thank you everyone.

Chris.

If the belt snapped you will need a valve job as a minimum. Needing an extra 4 inches (me too brother) seems excessive. It can be a tight squeeze on there for sure. Also, those tensioners are adjusted while in the car *after* putting the belt on. That can be the extra slack you need. Go to 11:00 in the video below to see an explanation on the tensioner.

yep best to use a bore scope before redoing the timing belt. These are interference engines so when the timing belt goes, you will ding the exhaust valves on the pistons, bending the valves and possibly damaging the pistons. You can probably find a serviceable used head on car-part.com or you can have a machine shop replace the bent valves and check the head for flatness (if not flat, you need the shop to straighten not mill...). As a rough estimate, I'd expect doing the head/valves at $3K, but you can probably cut that in half if you do the install.
