Default Adding *factory* Xenons to non-xenon XC90

Hi guys.

I've done some searching here and have found some posts about people wanting to put aftermarket xenons/HID into their non-xenon cars. I might be purchasing an XC90 (2007 or 2008) in the next couple of weeks. One of the options that I have gotten used to on my other cars is the xenon. It seems like all the cars here in the southeast do not have this option installed.

Since the XC90 has xenon as an available option, is it technically possible to replace the headlights with the *factory* bi-xenons? How difficult of a job would this be and would I need the dealer to reprogram anything? I'm sure it would be more expensive than the typical "ebay hid kits", but I'm going for quality and cleanliness of install.

Thanks!
-Craig

It will require software and modules to do this, yes.

Well, i was looking for an add-on kit, but i don't know if they make one for it. It only comes in certain packages. Call your dealer I suppose, but yeah, over $1000.00 I am pretty sure.

Well, yeah, that would be the plan. The questions beyond that are what else needs to be done like:
  1. Computer reprogramming necessary?
  2. Option button addition in center console
  3. Wiring harness updates?
  4. Disabling of DRL or would a programming update take care of this?

When I started this thread, I hadn't purchased the car yet. I finally found a 2008 with low mileage with some decent options. I'm actually taking the car into the dealership this weekend for some warranty items and will inquire about retrofitting factory HIDs then. I'll let you guys know.

Thanks.

Update:

Went to the dealer the other weekend and asked about HIDs. It's basically not feasible. The dealer stated that the headlight assemblies are about $1200 per side. In addition, the car would require reprogramming. The killer, however, is that the non-HID/xenon cars use a different wiring harness, apparently. Having to change a wiring harness would not be worth it, in my opinion.

I'll probably just go to Silverstars when my existing lights give out.

Default 2004 XC90 T6 HID headlights

Got a warning that my low beams were out. Took to dealer and am told the repair is over $1000 for a new module. When the unit failed ALL headlights turned off leaving me driving in the dark.
Has anyone else had this problem????

Are there any places where they salvage Volvos? I know that some other makes have places where you can purchase used parts from salvaged automobiles.
