Default Advice on buying a used xc90 please!!

Hello I am new to the forums here but have a few questions

I am looking to buy a used XC90 and my budget is around 12k

I have found a 2004 XC90 T6 fully loaded with nav sytem/back up cam, 3rd row seats and upgraded audio, with 89,000 miles on it for just under $9,000
I know I know all about the problems with the transmission on this model but assuming the transmission is ok, is it a good buy?
I have read where if you do a transmission flush every so often it should last for a while which I can do myself. I am also not opposed to doing the transmission rebuild on it myself if it comes to it. I've rebuilt a transmission for a VW before so I figure I could do this if it comes to it.

I am also looking at a 2005 Xc90 V8 with 115,000 miles on it for $11,000. I understand that the V8 version doesn't have the transmission issues but for an extra $3000 and 25,000 miles i don't know if its worth it..

I would love to hear your thoughts and opinions please.

Thanks

V8 definitely worth it if it's a later build model with drain holes in the CB shaft bearing housing. If it's an earlier 2005 build model, you'd be taking a serious risk of catastrophic engine failure. With your budget, look for a good 2.5T.

I think the T6 is a good deal, even if you have to hold back $3k for a new transmission. Mine has been trouble free for its entire life.

Even if the transmission goes out there is a pretty good chance that Volvo, recognizing the problem, will fix it for free. I personally wouldn't worry about it as long as you have proof, via receipts, that the vehicle was well maintained.

I test drove the 2005 V8 today and its seems to be in pretty good condition and just as nice as the 2004 t6. I did notice that there was a little stutter when i would hit 45mph but this only happened once but i'm still kind of concerned. The dealer said the just did a transmission flush on it this past month not sure if that caused it or not.. also the dealer dropped the price to $9800. haven't test drove the t6 yet seeing its about 2hrs away for me
