Anti Skid/Wheel Position Sensor and P0442
Hey group, I haven't posted in a good while. I did some searching but couldn't find what I was looking for. Truck threw a P0442 code right before inspection time. I changed the purge valve (front of the engine, I had changed the canister valve under the spare a few years ago). Cleared the code, passed inspection all was well. Then it threw a P0171 and P0174 and the P0442 again. Took it to my AAA guys because they "usually" do pretty good work. They changed the MAF and purge valve for $1K. I took my AZ purge valve back and was refunded. Drove it maybe 20 miles doing errands. P0442 back again, they (AAA) said the purge motor (one by the spare tire) was bad. Changed that for $400. Same, drove it for about 15 miles and P0442 came back. I put a new gas cap on, nope no fix. Took it back and told them (politely) to stop throwing parts at it and diagnose it and fix it right. I have known the two service writers for a long time and spent a good bit of money with them. Got a call that they found a small leak with the smoke machine, and it was all fixed, no charge. Nope, same drive cycle and code is back. So back it goes with no more dollars coming out of my wallet until they fix it right.
So,
Question 1, does the oil baffle cause this code? I changed that probably 5 years ago, but I can't remember what code lead me there.
and
Question 2, I changed the clock spring/wheel position sensor with a used eBay part yesterday. It would throw the "Anti-Skid Service Required" when you turned it hard left but then after I acknowledged the message and a new key cycle with a couple of right turns it would clear. Now with the replacement my scanner INNOVA 3170 reports "Invalid data received from wheel position sensor" and it won't clear. I don't have my Vida stuff anymore and my scanner has the option to calibrate the sensor but when I tell it OK, I get "not supported for this vehicle" So I'm hoping it just needs to be reset with a better scanner, AAA guys say they can do it, but they will need to check the alignment as well. I'm good with that as I just put new tires on it.
Thoughts?
Truck has 221,000 on the clock by the way, so it's a matter of principle to keep her running.
