Buyer's Guide
All,
Starting to look at XC90's in my local area. I'd consider myself mechanically inclined and have done the majority of work on my european cars (VW, BMW) myself. Recently passed on an XC70 due to reports of transmission noises at 130k. What problem areas should I be looking for on the XC90 from the 2005 era? This particular one is a V8. If there's an existing post that spells all this out, happy to be directed to that.

I have sold used Volvo vehicles for 20 years and have not only NEVER heard of that but never experienced what you are describing.
You can find fault with any car on the market is you read online. The early design V8 had an issue with the balance shaft that is inherent in the design. Read about that, not the transmission.
