Default Clean/repair CEM XC90

The CEM of my 2017 XC90 got damaged by a spilled soda soaking through the cupholder. The Volvo dealer says it is not covered by warranty and can only be replaced at considerable expense. I've heard of cleaning the CEM. Or it may be damaged I don't know. Is it possible to buy an aftermarket one? If you disconnect or replace, doesn't it have to be reprogrammed by the Volvo dealer? Thanks for any information.

You sure it was the CEM? It isn't in the center console..

what's going on that you're trying to diagnose?

Ok sorry I was misunderstanding. It’s the console and dashboard harnesses that have sticky soda damage. The CEM is ok. I’m having electrical issues with some of the dashboard controls but now also the car dying and not restarting. The dealer is telling me they don’t usually clean, just replace. Anybody have any experience with this?

I've seen problems with the Center Console Switch Module (where the volume **** is) and the start switch assembly from people spilling things. In each case, I replace the damaged component. The connector can usually be cleaned with electronic contact cleaner, but that depends on how bad it is. I have yet to need to replace wiring or terminals.

Dealer agreed to clean the harnesses and connections. Still a hefty labor charge but I'm going to hope that gets the job done. We will see.
