D5 (D5244T4) Diesel Type?

Greetings all!
I was looking for a 2007/8 XC70, but was then offered a two-owner 86,000km 2007 D5 XC90. I've never owned a diesel and heard horror stories about common rail injectors/pumps failing due to poor fuel system maintenance.
What diesel should I be filling at the pump, standard or low sulphur?
Many thanks.

Hey there,
D5244T4 from Germany here. So sorry for my poor English.
The Diesel over here is always low sulphur (standardized in "EN590"), and usually the CR is quite tough in the D5. But it doesn't like to run dry, and a little bit more lubrication than the standard Diesel is not bad.
Some prefer 2-stroke oil (which could harm the particular filter), or special additives. I'm a little freak in that topic, so for me I add a mixture of two additives in 1:1000 ratio to the Diesel to keep the fuel system clean and lubed (I don't know if it's okay to name the brands - this is also my first post here). Engine has now ~120,000kms (chassis 210,000kms) and Vida says my injectors are absolutely fine.
The fuel filter needs to replaced regulary (done in 5 minutes). Mine was first hand, beside the last service always maintained at Volvo, and the filter was clogged -> limp mode. When I changed it, it looked like it was as old as the car.![Frown](https://volvoforums.com/forum/images/smilies/frown.gif)

Danke für das Kompliment! ![Smile](https://volvoforums.com/forum/images/smilies/smile.gif)
Russisch kann ich z.B. garnicht... Ich habe NULL Begabung für Fremdsprachen...![Frown](https://volvoforums.com/forum/images/smilies/frown.gif)
But back to topic (in English, so everyone understands):
I'm glad you found a nice one! Sometimes I regret it to have a D5 as the prices for Diesel are insane at the moment (~1.75€/Liter and sometimes even more), also the taxes on diesel engines are also a lot more.
I think if I had to buy it nowadays, I'd also choose the 3.2 AWD - preferred with LPG-conversion (LPG is ~0.75€/Liter at the moment). I guess even with twice the maintenance (petrol and LPG part) it would be cheaper at the moment.
So... Have fun with your XC und Alles Gute!![Smile](https://volvoforums.com/forum/images/smilies/smile.gif)
