RE: What is your XC90 milage?
I had the very same issues with the mileage when i first bought my XC90: 12-13mpg city and 18 mpg highway. in fact, i had bought the XC90 because it had one of the higher gas mileage ratings among SUV's. i was told that you have to wear the engine in a few thousand miles. 6 months later, the mpg has improved to about 15.5mpg city and 19-20mpg city. I'm still hoping it goes higher.
but the car is great. i just installed a hitch and have been towing. on the highway i got about 18mpg, which was pleasing, considering i was towing a trailer and a motorcycle. and the trunk space is unbeatable.

Join the club. I have a 2006 with 1000 miles on it. I'm getting
around 12 mpg in the city and 23 mpg on the highway. My problems is
that 95% of my driving is in the city. I called volvo and was told to
wait until 5000 miles to allow the engine to break in. Not satisfied
with this advise, I called the service mgr and scheduled a fuel
consumption test. They basically checked the computer for faults and
checked for fuel leaks. They then filled my tank and took it for a
road test. Guess where they road tested it? You guessed it, on the
highway (23 mpg). I was told to monitor the next 3 full tank
fills/odometer/trip reading and do manual calculations. Then, if still
not satisfied, take it back with receipts for further eval.
Good luck. Let me know if you find/hear about anything.

RE: What is your XC90 milage?
I have a 2005 2.5t xc 90 with approximately 25000 miles. Ever since i bought the vehicle i used premium gasoline and which was constantly getting around 20 to 21 mpg going 70mph on the interstate for 400 total miles. Well, with the rise in fuel prices, I decided to use octane 89 and see what would happen. Well after using 89 octane i got roughly 24.5 mpg on my first tank. I also did change to Mobil 1 synthetic oil prior to using the lower grade in gasoline just because ive heard great news about using Mobil 1 synthetic oil. Do you think using the synthetic oil increased my mpg or is it just because of using 89 octane. Also, if my mpg increased using 89 octane do you think it would be the same or even better using 87 octane?
