Cool How to swap your oil pan in your driveway

Hello Gents,

I have been reading and reading on how to replace the oil pan on a 850. Tonight, I dove into it and was surprised to find out how easy it was.

I had the pan out in 1.5 hours.

Here are the details.

1. Jack the car up and support it.
2. Take the passenger wheel off.
3. Remove the Dipstick
4. Remove all three bracket/guides on the Power steering lines
5. Oil Filter removed
6. Take all the bolts from the pan
7. Take a look a the pictures for this next step.
8. Remove the two bolts that hold the engine mount (by the pulley) and the single bolt to release the front engine mount (between the radiator and block).
9. With a jack and a 4x4 (about 6 inches) use the rear transaxle guide to lift the engine. You can see by the picture how high I had to raise it to get the pan out.
10. My pan actually fell out with almost zero effort but if you need to give it a tap there is a tab 4 inches to the left of the dip stick hole that you can put some down pressure on .
11. The lines for the power steering can be moved over (with effort) to the tranny to get the rear of the pan out.
12. Work it the rest of the way.

13. Do what you have to do then follow the instructions in reverse.

Two pictures for you:

Honestly, a cake job. Dont be intimidated, you can do this in your driveway.

Nice pictures.

Did you manage to keep the driveway fairly clean?

I had a few panic moments with oil oozing but managed. You may want to have some kitty litter ready. Most of the oil that spilled out came from the hole in the pan that I was replacing it for.

I just repeated the oil pan change, this time on my Turbo 850. No difference other than one more attachement on the front and front side of the pan for the oil cooler. Smooth as silk, out and in but this time I spilled more oil.

You dont have to use a wood block. Just keep the concept in mind. I used that same block on both engines.
