Factory Navi and backup cam question (2009 XC90)
So I'm looking at getting a 2009 XC90 and was wondering if anyone here has the factory navigation system? I heard there were long delays between switching to reverse and seeing the backup cam on the screen. Is this true, and if so, how bad is it?
Also, none of the dealers I've been to can show me a demo model with this. Where is the physical camera mounted on the car and how noticeable is it?
Thanks in advance.

RE: Factory Navi and backup cam question (2009 XC90)
Hi i own a 2005 Volvo xc 90 but without navigation. I test drove the 08 model with navigation but they said there is no camera attached to the navigation. Usually the camera should be just where the trunk release is in the right corner or somewhere along that area. It depends on how they do it but it should be noticable.

RE: Factory Navi and backup cam question (2009 XC90)
I've got an '08 w/nav but w/out the backup camera. The Nav system does what all nav systems do quite well - i.e. get you from point A to point B. Problem is in the POI's. Volvo has 1.74M POI's. Compared to most hand held GPS systems this is pitiful as most hand held units have ~6M POI's - and OEM Nav systems use the same data suppliers as the hand-helds, MapQue in the case of Volvo. So when you are in the city and you want to find XYZ store...it's not there, you have to look it up and enter the location in order to be guided to the location. My $400 hand-held Garmin not only has the location of XYZ store, but the phone number. My $2300 Volvo OEM system NEVER has the business listed, let alone the phone. I knew this going in so really have no complaints, but there is really no reason why it can't be a lot better and more useful. Proper menu arrangement could make this a much more useful system.
The back up camera. I originally wanted one. The camera is to the right of the rear plate, up and tucked up nicely out of the way. It is very much NOT noticeable. The problem is the camera will not come on in reverse until the nav screen rises - 3-4 seconds after engaging reverse. Too long. The camera sells for over $700 plus installation (reasonably complex). And depending upon the dealer, up to one hour of computer time (although it only takes five minutes, some shops have a min charge of one hour, some a half hour). Look to spend $1,100 - $1,300 for system and install. I didn't think it was worth it. The back up beepers work fine and I set my right hand outside mirror to go down and see the curb with memory button three.
