Default Fiber optics vs wiring harness

Hi all.. I'm Kate, I'm the new guy..

So I bought a 2003 xc90 t6 last month and the radio doesn't work. The guy I bought it from said it didn't work for the 2 years he owned it himself, either. Well we're fairly mechanically inclined.. So after poking around a little it seems that one of the fiber optic wires in the back is damaged.. as in its all black at the end. I got power to the HU for a couple of hours, but no sound. Now I don't even have power.

So my question is.. would it behoove me to just replace the damaged fiber optics or get a whole aftermarket wiring harness and put in a different stereo? And what EXACTLY do I need for either??

thanks!

oh, my driver side seat heater also burned thru the seat, just fyi

last thing: I also have the all data subscription for this vehicle if anyone is interested in it.
