Gear shifter won’t stay in auto. It goes to Manuel side by itself. Now what?

Gear shifter won’t stay in auto. It goes to Manuel side by itself. Now what?
When I shift the car from park to drive, it won’t stay on the automatic side. It falls over to the manual side and I have to shift it manually if I want it to work but it does work.
Has anyone ever experienced this before and what did you do?
