headlights out 04 XC90
My wife is driving home last night from a girls night out dinner around 10pm, she gets a message about low bulb failure in the XC90. She doesnt notice SHE HAS NO HEAD LIGHTS..... so once she gets on the back road coming home, she finally figures out she has no head lights. Whomever is behind her.... THANK YOU... the person puts their brights on so my wife can see heading down a windy hill road near our house. Once down the hill she can get home on normal streets with lots of street lights.
Now.... she doesn't tell me the lights are totally out... so I'm at home with no idea.
Once she's home I go out an check..... YES, no head lights, she has rear lights and the side lights, but both main head lights are out.
So..... would both bulbs go out at the exact same time?
What's the story with changing them and not having to go to the dealer?
Now, I worked in an auto shop in college and we have 5 vehicles, I have done the brakes on the XC90 twice at home and do most all work on our cars within reason..... so I'm capable.
I just thought I would tee up to you guys who have replaced bulbs that might give me some pointers on the easy way to do it at home.
Thanks

I have the same problem! I flipped the switch from HID's to daytime driving lights, and got a "Bulb Failure". I flipped back to HIDs and got a "Bulb Failure". When I checked, no headlights on either side. Very unlikely it's an actual bulb failure because all 4 went out at the same time. The web indicates that it may be the CEM, a $600 part with $500 install. (And this 2 days after a $1700 timing belt replacement.)
I have reported this sudden loss of headlights to the NHTSA as a major safety issue.
