Are the new replacement T6 transmissions any different than the original faulty ones?
I cant seem to get a straight answer for this question. I have a 2005 XC90 T6 that had the transmission replaced in early 2010 @ 98000 miles. Even the people at the dealer couldn't tell me for sure if the new transmission is any different than the old one. All they said was they have changed a few of them and have never had any of them come back after the repairs. It just makes me wonder because I have read of many who have had their transmissions replaced only to have them go out again in a few thousand miles. Just wondering if anyone knows more about these replacement transmissions than I do. I love everything about this car except worrying about the transmission. Thanks for the help!
IIRC there were no upgrades done to the gm trannies, you got 98k out of the first one, god blessed you! find out why the first one failed. make sure it not from coolant contamination. usually the case if the radiator craps out into the tranny lines. expect to get another 50-70k out of the next one. by that time the truck will only be worth it for scrap
mine is at 147300 today and its on the 3rd tranny(67k and 138k) seems like the previous owner only get 65k out of each tranny :P
just plan on it failing again in about 60k thats about 4-5years from now. it will be 2014 and by that time we will have a all new xc90 out(hopefully) and you will want that one!

All they did was go to a completely new transmission, no longer a rebuild. The old part number 8251468 was a rebuild from GM/Volvo, which as we know sometimes barely made it out of the stall it was so badly rebuilt. So the solution was to build them brand new, part number 36001126. You still have to send back your old one for a core, but that part number is brand new. im guessing its the same goddamn thing just a brand new one. i had the same problem

Just curious... since it's been a few years, did you end up needing another transmission? I just purchased a 2005 xc90 t6, that had the transmission replaced at 75k 2 years ago and is now at 100k... so I'm a little worried about this issue!! Any update/info would greatly be appreciated.
Drove it everywhere all the time. Clocked another 19500 miles in 15 months then I put it up for sale. @ 169500 miles in August of 2012 for $8500. Vehicle is in great shape still. New owner is at currently 185000 and all it needed was a fuel pump since then. Says truck is fine other wise.
According to the dealership where I worked for 11 years, besides the new part number, Volvo also has a software update to the ecm/bcm module to change the shift points for the trans. starting with 3600*
what does the 3600 mean. Is that the beginning of the part number? Thanks for all the info
Hoping this transmission will last much longer than the first. Anyone else that has had the t6 transmission replaced, did you have to get a 2nd replacement eventually, or did the 1st replacement hold strong?
