Different AW50-42 Transmissions
Hi All,
The auto tranny in my 97 855 is shot and I got one from a friend out of a 95 855 but the speed sensor is different. My own one is on top of the case with two wires coming out while the 95 one is down at the bottom of the diff housing and only has a two pin socket. I have the connector for this older type speed sensor, so my question is.....can I cut and splice the two wires (their colours are the same as what's in my own loom) and know that the whole set up will work when I put it back in the car?

Long dead, as is the car. lol Anyway, I cut and spliced the two wires and put the gearbox in and the whole lot worked. The only trouble I had was that sometimes (every month or two) the CEL light would come on and I'd have to reset it by disconnecting the battery for a few hours. I eventually took the car off the road with almost half a million miles on the clock (its still parked out back) and bought a 1997 945

Thank you very much for the reply. I'm just trying to get as much information on interchangeability as I can, so anyone else who ends up with this trouble doesn't have to guess. Did you have anyother trouble connected to the transmission swap. Also Do you mind if I copy and post this in the aw50-42le thread on turbobrick

Please, post it so that someone else might learn something from it. I wish I had the info before I started, but I went ahead and took out the engine and transmission anyway as the car was useless otherwise. (it was easier for me to lift out the lot) I was able to do a complete service while the engine was out including timing belt.
