Power Steering Return / Pressure Hoses: Which is Which?
Planning a fluid flush and trying to determine which hose is the pressure hose and which is the return at the reservoir… Anyone have a pic or diagram of a 2011 3.2L which illustrates the pressure/return hoses? I looked online and I’m more confused now than before I started.
Related question; Is it better on these cars to drain from the hose at the rack than trying to do it the way the YouTubers do it at the reservoir? I’ve only done the former on other cars, so this method is new to me. Seems like a potential mess doing it the ‘reservoir way.’
Flushing a power steering system is a messy job. If you loosen a fitting on the rack - fluid goes everywhere. If you want to deal with that - ok.
If it were me and I really wanted to change my steering fluid - for some unknown reason - maybe self flagellation or the thought that it was really going to make a difference in the long run ( sorry I've been in the car repair business for a very long time )
I would use a suction bulb or drain the reservoir, refill it, run the car and turn the steering back and forth for a moment, then repeat that a few times until I felt better about the condition of the fluid in my power steering system.
