Hi all,

I posted about an issue in a different thread and I just took my car to the Volvo dealership/service shop and it was the issue that was suspected (breather box). They told me some other issues with my car however and I'm confused about the pricing of the repairs. They said my auxiliary belt needs to be replaced and want to charge $1,115 for that repair. My tire bearings are making noise and they want to charge $1,472.

I have a 2007 AWD Volvo XC90.

These prices seem extremely high to me? A different mechanic told me my auxillary belt was cracking and told me it would be about a $300 repair. I'm really confused, and being a younger female, I'm always concerned I'm being stiffed.

First make sure to compare apples to apples. Find out what all is included in the belt repair. They are probably also pricing the idler and tensioner in there and maybe the one way clutch pulley.

For the bearings, front or rear?

 

I'll ask when I go into the shop in a couple hours. Would that seem like a normal price if all of that is included? And the bearings are the front.

 

If it includes the idler, tensioner and clutch, that is a fair price based on what I believe to be a $150 per hour labor rate established in your other thread.

The whole job should be about 3.2 hours. Parts are about $650. Parts prices can vary by region though.

If it does not include the clutch and only includes the idler and tensioner, labor is 2.2 and Parts around $260.

For the wheel bearings, labor for both front is 3 hours. Parts are about $275 each. So the price should be about $1000.
