Default Radio replacement scam?

We recently had the entire radio unit on our xc90 replaced. When we got it back from the dealer we were surprised to find all of our preset radio stations were set.
Is this possible?
I am hinling they replaced a cheap part and billed me for an entire stereo.
Any techies out there know if its possible to keep the presets??

They could have written them down and reprogrammed them. That is what I do for customers because I know it is annoying to have to reprogram them all.

No, they don't use codes any more. This isn't about codes anyway.

unless it was a fuse, I seriously doubt anyone opened up a car stereo to repair it. no one does that anymore. no one knows how. when they break you replace. plus unless your car was new you should be able to tell because there would be wear/shiny spots on bottoms and some small scratches/scuffs.

Depends what they replaced. If it was the IAM, you cannot see any part of it. It it was the ICM, you only see the display. The buttons aren't replaced though

Thanks. This is what they told us when the whole radio wouldn't turn in: they said it needed to be replaced and the cost was roughly $1000 but it was a common volvo problem and there was a $20 part that volvo created to fix the problem.
After waiting a week to get that part they called and said the part did not fix it and we would need the new radio.
However the service guy said he felt bad and was giving us his discount to lower the price. We called him at his house. I don't know him so it seemed overly generous but we were relieved to get a discount.
So I'm thinking now that he just used the $20 part and pocketed the money we paid for the new radio.
I just want to collect all my facts so I can prove this one way or another.

The old radio didn't turn in at all. Would they have even been able to see my old presets??

I have never heard of a $20 part to fix a bad ICM (the display screen). The presets are stored in the IAM, so replacing the ICM doesn't mess with them.

Do you have the repair order? Is the $20 part charged out? If so, what is the part number?

Thanks very much for all the replies. The invoice says the ICM was faulty and needed to be replaced.
The invoive is for $935 and the part listed is a control panel. that the control panel was replaced.
Thanks

The radio module that stores your settings and presets is not a part of the ICM (display & controls).
