Replacement Headlamp Assemblies
2013 XC90 installed replacement 'aftermarket' xenon assemblies with fresh lenses. Apparently these lack ballasts and automatic angularity. (Which is why they are $250 a pair). Yet they were plug and play and operate properly. However, I have read in other posts I will now have a 'Permanent Error Message' for Headlamp Failure. I have a CarSoft OBD II and was unable to clear the error code. Is there a 'trick' to clearing the error message or is this something I have to live with?
the car is sensing a voltage drop to determine when you have a bulb failure. Assuming your kit has a different resistance from a stock bulb, you are gonna set off the warning light. Curious if its possible to add a resistor to the circuit path (and if somebody markets as a kit).
Thanks mt6127 will look into it. I was curious as the aftermarket headlamp assemblies are so commonly purchased, (as opposed to the high cost of OEM). BTW - the warning light is not for the typical bulb failure (high or low), but rather 'headlamp failure service required'
. Based on other Posts I've read, it appears the warning is an issue to 'live with' as the cost of trying to 'cheap out' on replacement assemblies. In the interim, I sent out my OEM and working headlamp assemblies to an individual who can reportedly refresh the lens clarity (to a level better than I could with off-the-shelf lens renewer).
