Default Timing belt change

I'm in the process of changing the TB on my 05 XC90 T6 but could not remove the front TB cover. The coolant overflow tank has a hose that goes through the cover. How do you disconnect the plastic fitting. Do you cut the hose and splice it later?

Thanks!

To my knowledge you shouldn't need to cut any hoses.

There is 2 release buttons that are a pain to get pushed in. Usually the plastic nipple it is attached usually breaks and you need to buy a new thermostat housing.

Thanks got it off! I had to unbolt the black housing in front of the TB cover. It has two metal boxes that look like "hard drives". I did not remove those. I was able to move the cover out further to clear the plastic nipple. Now, I have another problem. I lined up the two marks on tha cam sprocket but unsure about the crank pulley and engine. In the attached photo, are the two indicators where the arrows are pointing the timing marks? This is my last step before removing the belt. I'd appreciate your help...

Thanks again

Those 2 arrows have to be lined up. The top marks might be a hair off make sure the crank ones are lined up.

How was the success on replacing your t-belt. Did you repalce your tensioner and idler pulleys? And how in the world did you get the hose off wihtout breaking the t-stat housing?

Default Finish at last

I've already driven over 2k miles on the new TB w/o any problems. Great success! Yes, I did replace the tensioner and idler puley so with the accessories belt (might as well).

I cut the band off the hose on the t-fitting, pulled off the hose gently, there are two serrated tabs, slide forward and you should be able to pull the fitting off. Just in front of the cover there is a box where the PS reservoir sits. remove the box, it comes apart half way and held by clips. Lift it upper half while holding the hard drives down (or ecm?). Remove the fan and piping as well. There're slip-on. After that, you should have enough room to pull the cover forward, clear the fitting and pull the cover up and out. It takes a lot of patience on first time. I have pics if you want. Tell me where to send! I spent $155 for parts. Labor...priceless!

Enjoy!

I've tried many times to save the t-stat housing and im unsuccesful every time. The tabs are to be pushed forward?

I know it's hard. I almost gave up especially in the small space you have to work with. I've spoke to several people (even the techs at JustAnswer.com) and they've said the same thing. I guess I was just been lucky. Yes, you have to slide those two serrated tabs in. It's probably stuck! Regardless of these circumstances, patience is what you need. Believe me, I almost was tempted to break it. Everytime I ran out of patience I walked away and returned after a while or did something else. Good Luck!

I was so pleased with myself for getting the elbow off without breaking the nipple. And then....................broke the damn thing putting the TB cover in.

To heck with buying a new T-stat housing though. I just drilled and tapped it for brass fittings. Works great and won't break
