Too late to undercoat/rust proof my 2009 xc90?

Hi all-
I'm in the process of buying a 2009 xc90 with 83k miles. It's in very good condition overall, but has a good amount of surface rust underneath the vehicle. I plan on having this car for 6-7 years.
Is it too late to rustproof or undercoat the car? If not, should I go ahead and do one or the other, or both? I've never done it before, and am getting mixed answers in the my research.
What do you all think?
Thank you
