Default Transmission Service Required

Hi all,

A question for any with experiuence out there.

I have a 04 diesel auto, 87k, it usually goes just fine.... but the last 2 times I have used it for towing my boat I have had 'Transmission Service Required' come up. No other symptoms, and on switching off and on, it comes out of safety mode and carries on as normal.

Any ideas/comments/general mirth welcome.

Only way to know where to look is to have the codes pulled.

The last time it happened it went to Volvo who cleared code and told us they couldn't find anything wrong (charging us accordingly for the privilege).

I had just hoped there might be another option!

Believe me, I'd like to know the codes too, I was really wondering if there was an easier way of getting them than lining the dealer's pockets (especially when they didn't tell us anyhow last time).

It seems maybe not, so its going in today and I'll be pushing them to find out the detailed codes.

Ok, the codes were:

TCM002F and
ECM5310

They said that it could be a software fault and carried out a TCM upgrade.

Thanks for all thoughts.
