So my "Service power system Urgent" light has been coming on randomly every couple of days. Ive had the battery tested about 12 times. Ive had the alternator tested many times as well. Its ridiculous. I can't even see the alternator let alone figure out how to get it out. Anyone here have a clue? I can barely even see the belt. Yesterday I was driving the engine light came on, service power system urgent came on, couldnt roll down windows or anything the car was barely creeping along. When I came to a stop I could rev the engine, but when driving I could barely move untill after a few seconds the speed built up. When I got home I tried to start it up and it wouldnt. I had to put it on the charger. After charging I took it to have the alternator tested. It read about 13.8 volts at 70 amp at idle and at 2g rpm it was about 110amp not sure why the difference. I was told by another forum member to check it at 2000 rpm. Does anyone here have any experience or factual info that may help. The dealer quoted me 1400 bucks for an alternator. I just paid 1000 for an navigation dvd drive. This is getting ridiculous. My wife loves her volvo's - I'm starting to hate getting raped.

You have to remove the right axle and mainly do it from underneath.
