Default Very High Mileage XC90 - just an fyi...

I have a 2004 5 cylinder XC90 with 289K on it, still very serviceable and a daily driver. Just some fyi on oil usage for you, as I have conducted some recent tests: In the last year or so the 10W30 oil is just no longer a good fit for the car, I just returned from a trip using High Mileage Pennzoil, and it used more than a quart in 2100 miles. Last summer I converted (for the second time) to 20W50 and just loved the results - it was going over 3000 miles before a quart was needed, and the car seems to run fine on it. Plus, I am in Dallas (!), so no problem on temp. My testing confirms that the engine over time, at extreme mileages like this, gets looser and the answer is thicker oil. I am adding this for you, as I could not find anywhere useful info on a mileage at this extreme number. BTW - you would be amazed how well this car still runs.

Good to know! I just put in a thicker oil in my wifes VW and it seems to like it a little better. A tad bit quieter. Too bad it still leaks like a siv.
