Default Water Problems

Hello,

About 4-6 weeks ago, Ipurchased a used 2004 XC90 and am having the water sloshing sound problem when I pull out of the driveway. I believe I only hear it on the driver side. There has been some condensation on the inside of the windshieldfrom time to time after it rains. With the recent heavy rain since I have owned the car, Igot a fewinches of water inside on the driver and passenger side. I have read about the infamous XC90 sunroof drainage problems and became aware of the tech bulletin. I removed the sunroof and checked the drain holes. I checked the hoses and 90 degelbow behind thea-pillar trim pieces between the windshield and doors. They are clean and free of debris. I blew compressed air through each drain hole anyway. Everything appears to be in order. My driveway has about a 30 degree incline and I park uphill. I believe that the water is never making it to the drain holes and is leaking into the frame thru the sunroof or cannot drain fast enough because I am parked on an incline. Has anyone had this experience? I cannotreally determine where the drains come out behind the front tires w/o pouring water in the drain holes in the sunroof. I cannot believeVolvo did not use a continuous piece of hose leading out of the car for drainage. It looks like the design permits it to drain right into the frame on both sides of the car. My other theory is that the driver side drainpath after the 90 degree elbow may beclogged. This was a lease turn in that was used by a family previous to my ownership. There is evidence that the couplings were inspected and maybe previously unclogged, but it did not appear that the car had ever been flooded before. I am trying to dry it out and then will try parking in the downhill direction, but any advise, suggestions, or experiences with this problemwould be appreciated.

Thanks,
Eric

I have a 2004 also and I have the same problem. When it rains, the framing between the windshield and the doors become saturated inside. I hear the sloshing when I hit the brakes or taking off. When it rains hard, I get a puddle of water on the driver's side floor. I think the water is coming in from the topedge of the windshield. At the top corners of the windshield, the framing underneath is not even. It appears to be a slight indentation right before the edge of the windshield. I think the didn't do a good job sealing it in those corners and that could possibly be the problem. I am still investigating the problem. I will also try to put up some photos so you can maybe have a better idea about what I am talking about.

Thanks for the info and I look forward to any pictures you can provide. My email is ereed@diversitycomm.com.

I had some dampness on the drivers side a-pillar trim piece right after I purchased the car. With this recent flood, it is as dry as a bone.

Based on what you describe, is possible that the drain hose pulled off or is loosewhere it attaches to the sunroof drain???? This would requirepulling down the ceiling interior to inspect. I didn't do that, so I do not know thedegree of difficulty.
