I have a 2005 Volvo XC90 T6. When I switch from Park to Drive and press on the gas pedal, the SUV does not move forward. It also feels like it does not switch gears. When I switch from Park to 1st gear, the SUV hesitates when I press on the gas pedal...but the SUV does move when I switch to 2nd and 3rd gear. When I put the SUV in Reverse and press on the gas pedal, it will move in reverse. Any thoughts of what the problem may be and possible fixes?

 

You have the known to fail 4t65 General motors transmission in your car. It was known when the cars were built that the 4t65 trans was not capable of handling the power output of the Volvo T6 engine. Volvo used it anyway. The trans in a t6 xc90 I leased in 2004 - lasted 18000 miles before it needed to be replaced.

Unfortunately if will take a replacement or rebuilt transmission to fix your problems. Good news is - it's a GM product used in many different cars - so parts and knowledge should be easy to find.
