Talking XC90 Coolant Leak (video)

OK.. I am hoping to find some feedback from the group. This seems like I may simply have to replace the Engine Coolant Thermostat Gasket. I had Midas run a pressure test for me, but ultimately I located the exact spot where the leak is occurring on my own. They tried to tell me that I need to replace the entire thermostat housing but, ummmm, no. Take a look at the YouTube video and chime in. The entire housing + labor = 417.00. Gasket alone about 20 bucks.

Gasket is about $20 but the labor is the same. If you pay someone to replace the gasket and it's still leaking because it needs the housing, make sure you're prepared to pay the labor again. That's why they quoted the housing.

I hear you ES6T. They quoted 203.00 for the housing and the OEM part is about 120.00 from most Volvo parts dealers. I may just buy the housing to be safe and pony up for the labor. From what I saw the leak is clearly only along the gasket. I don't know if you watched the video. What do you think?

I watched the video. What happens if you replace the gasket and all is good until the thermostat fails in a month? Then you're paying labor again. If you have the housing off, I'd suggest replacing it do you don't have to worry about it later. If you were doing the work yourself, it would be different.

Makes total sense. Thanks for the feedback!
