XC90 help
Evening all. New here. Hope its okay to dive right in.
Got a 2004 XC90 that's been dripping oil for about 2 months. Not a lot but dripping. Got 78,677 miles. Runs great with no other problems. Took it in to a local independent Volvo service shop here in town. Tech said he has to replace the PCV system. What? Along with that he has to replace the front oil seals, timing belt, tension pulley and idle pulley. Along with an oil change the estimate comes to $1680.34. Tech says this a pretty common thing on Volvo's. I'm getting some other estimates this week but wanted to tap the forum too. Seems like a lot of work for a slight oil leak. I'm on line looking for more info.

I dont see how the PCV system ( Positive Crankcase Ventilation) has anything to do with your oil leak, if its the front seals, the timing belt has to be removed to change them so you might as well replace it (volvo recommends ~100k miles to change) as long as you've already got the old one oFF. The idler pulley and the tension pulley at 80k miles ? that might be pushing it a little, if they're cheap maybe (but whats cheap on a volvo?) I'd probably ask for a price to change the belt and the oil seals, I would guess around $500.00 tops! Good luck, give us an update!
