Default XC90 intermittent shuddering on acceleration at low speeds

Hi, 2012 Volvo XC90 - 110k miles. The car will make a shuddering/clanking sound at low speeds that can be felt through the whole car (but seems mostly forward). Turning the wheel hard one way or the other - or doing a three point/U turn makes the sound happen most frequently but it is intermittent and will come and go at random. Going up a steep hill and accelerating will also make it happen. It does not happen at high speeds once you speed up and get on the highway. It's as if when you apply the accelerator there's a shuddering where it's feels like the car is losing acceleration/forward momentum/torque in very quick/short increments. Like "dunk dunk dunk dunk." With the window down, the sound outside the car sounds almost like "tinging" a steel drum.

I have taken to mechanic who thought it could be a bad transfer case/bevel gear, but wasn't confident and the sound is not able to be duplicated on command. I currently have a 'anti-skid service required' message and have had 'DTSC Spin control' error messages on the dash in the past. Not sure if this is related, but just sharing all the context.

Thanks for any help. Much appreciated.

Do you still have the original right axle?

Worn CV joints can made all sorts of strange noises/sensations.
