Default To XC90 or to not too.

Hello group,

I figured this would be the best place to get some good true feedback on these vehicles. I am currently interested in purchasing a 03-07 xc90 as they are reasonably priced and have all the features and comfort that I am looking for. The only thing is I do not know much about the reliability of them I have come across a few issues on the internet regarding transmission and valve body issues. How are the engines and rest of the drivetrain? Anything specif that I need to look for? Are any model years better or worse than others? Are these fairly easy vehicles to work on? Are replacement parts reasonable? I was originally looking for a full size suv like a tahoe but the xc90 looks to have sufficient room and better fuel economy. I am looking for a vehicle that can hold my 2 boys and throw some camping gear and such in the back and head out on long trips with.

Thanks for any help and advice!

recommend 5cyl 2wd version - less issues than the other power trains ...

Common theme I have noticed, with mine, and another one I have recently looked at, Timing needs to be done by 120k, Crankcase ventilation system (PCV/oil trap/flame box) needs to be in operational shape, (mine wasn't, neither is the other volvo) my turbo needed bearings and seals replaced. as it was passing oil to the front of the car. because of the crankcase vent, my main seal is leaking.(still)

My local dealer had a web coupon for a complimentary checkup. They looked at my list, and then went over the car, and told me all the above, and gave me an repair costs, and tried to bundle some of the repairs. The parts guy became my best friend during this process. (kinda)
