Default XC90 V8 Burning Oil

I just bought a used 2006 XC90 with the V8 and 110k miles. It seems to be burning oil, I've only put about a thousand miles on it, but it seems to have eaten about a quart or more of oil. It didn't run low, but I just checked it and it was down near the low mark and I had topped it up to the 3/4 mark.

After having oil issues in a previous vehicle that ended up needed a new block (main bearing failure at 90k miles), I'm paranoid.

I see no oil drip marks, nor do I see oil on the block - although its hard to tell on this car.

Is there a common issue with this, and/or should I look at replacing something before this becomes a big problem?

Thanks!

Unusual to be burning oil at that mileage, any tailpipe smoke while its running or when its first started? if you get a little smoke when its first started then clears up might be valve stem seals. look at the inside of the tail pipe if its burning oil it will be soot black instead of a lighter gray. if it is burning oil you may want to check the cylinder compression, maybe a bad ring? Also make sure youre checking the oil with the engine at the same condition each time, Hot/cold ect. Good luck, let us know what you find!
