940 Wentworth oil burning
I have a K reg 940 turbo Wentworth estate (manual), which has 140,000 miles on the clock. The car is in great condition except for one thing - recently it has started to emit puffs of blue smoke when accelerating hard, and the oil consumption has increased. The oil warning light will flicker as the revs drop, and occasionally when idling. In all other respects the engine performs normally.
I need to get this sorted out, but I'm not very mechanically-minded. Is something serious happening? Any opinions gratefully received.

RE: 940 Wentworth oil burning
Thanks for the rapid response. There's no smoke when idling. The smoke happens at a certain point when accelerating under load - particularly when climbing hills. Once the 'smoke point' has passed there's no more until the next acceleration. The turbo operation seems to be normal - it cuts in when it should, and the performance doesn't appear to be in any way affected. As the oil level drops the warning light starts its occasional flickering, but the smoking stops. I add more oil to bring the level back to normal, and this stops the warning light, but the smoking is back. I use the car to drive to work and back - a round trip of 30 miles a day, and I'm adding around a litre of oil every couple of weeks.
