I know there are a lot of post about tires but not a lot at apply to me thats why I'm asking now. (I used search).

I live here in Germany for the next 2 years (Air Force) and am buying a 2005 S40 T5 FWD on Friday and it has some decent all season tires but it could use some new tires, especially seeing as the winter season is coming up. I was wondering if anyone had any recommendations on tires for me, I donno how the snow is here but I hear we get a good amount and definitely got rain so what is a good tire for the conditions over here?

Would it be better to get snow tires or all season? I will be deplying in April for 6 months so I really wont see summer here for over a year and a half so I have no problem buying snow tires if they would be better but any input would be greatly appreciated!

We ran a RWD wagon in Michigan the last couple winters and survived it - you won't see the conditions in Germany we get here, and we made out just fine with midgrade all-season tires.

I moved to Soest, near Dusseldorf, from Pennsylvania in 1992 - and when we got two inches of snow, ze Germans joked that we must have brought it with us. Guess it depends where you're at.

 

The Continental DWS is an "all-season" tire that also has good snow performance (unlike most all-seasons), so it's a nice 4-season tire where snow falls.

I run Nokian WR G2 year round - they are even better in the snow, but give up more as a summer tire.
