1988 Volvo 240DL - Central Locking System

Description:
This is what Arizona sunshine and heat does to rubber and plastic insulation. I'm concerned with the attachment to the key lock switch - I don't want to force the plastic and break it. Is that some kind of release lever as I have indicated? Any info would be appreciated.

The photos are displayed in the reverse order in which they were loaded.

This is the overall view of the driver's door with the central lock components. The key lock switch is hidden in the shadows but is shown in the next picture. Oddly, only the wiring on the switch harness is affected. The main harness insulation is bright, shiny, and pliant.

This is the key lock switch. Half of the wires in the switch harness go to the door lock plunger switch (hanging upside down at bottom of photo) and this switch attached to the key lock on the door. I can't figure out how to release the black plastic attachment so I can remove the entire switch harness. Is that ribbed lever some kind of release mechanism? I am very worried about forcing the plastic and breaking it.

Here is a view of the Door Lock Plunger switch showing the deterioration of the wire insulation. No wonder my locks were going crazy on our pot-holed city streets.

This is the connector from the Lock Harness into the Main Harness that loops into the door from the firewall. Pretty nasty looking.

This is a schematic and explanation I found on the web.

I took these pictures and found this diagram on the web so I could print them out and keep them in my 240 file. Then I found this forum and decided to post them and ask for help. The URLs are listed at the bottom of the picture. I hope Pierce doesn't mind me grabbing one of his responses - he is a font of great information.
