Check engine light
Is it true if I disconnect the battery this will turn off my check engine light? I already found out what that I had a miss fire now I just need to get a tune up but that damn light bothers me.
I don't think it will, but you can try it. Make sure you have the code for the radio though. If the car is newer than 95, you need an ODB-II scanner to reset the code. Older than 95 it's done through a port under the hood. On 95's it's a split year where some were ODB-II and some were ODB-I.
Hi Kakins,
>Is it true if I disconnect the battery this will turn off my check engine light?
It depends. Sometimes yes disconnecting the battery for 15 minutes or longer deletes CEL, while other times it doesn't.
If you haven't noticed any driveability problem, most likely it's faulty O2 sensor. Tranny-related problems also turn CEL on (on Automatic only).
As Jim has noted, if your 850 is '96 or newer, you need an OBD-II scanner, but if it's '95 or earlier you can manually retrieve codes & delete them via OBD-I.
Good luck,
JPN

Got the light off for now friend came by with his ODBII and read it for me also told me it was a miss fire and I should get new spark plugs and wires. What kind of plugs should I get?
Greetings from Yokohama, Japan.
I would use either of the following:
1. Genuine Volvo
2. Bosch Platinum +2 or +4
3. Champion (indicated in Haynes)
Any of the following should give you top performance.
