I am a new V50 owner and within just a few months, one of my keys pretty much fell apart. It split open (electrical tape was working ok for that) and then the key fob latch broke and now the fob falls out readily.

The cost to replace is huge! Does anyone have any suggestions? Are there aftermarket keys, or people who fix these things other than Volvo dealers, or can I just forget about having the fob in (worried something might get into the key down the empty hole)?

I assume that you lost the skrew that is under the metal slide out key (mine came loose and key came apart, I was lucky to notice before I lost it). Check for a replacement screw and check it often. Doubt there is an aftermarket key available yet.

there is actually a service kit available for the key fob at the dealership including a really easy to loose spring that is for the locking tab for the actual key inside the remote. if u are under warranty it should be done for free but if not the kit is cheap enough for DIY
