I've looked at some posts about V70's and I've Googled a lot of information about crossbars for the V50, but I need help getting the right crossbar size to carry (2) 28.5" Hobie Adventure Kayaks on the roof of my V50. Right now I have only the factory crossbars. I've used Yakima's interactive finder and it comes up with 48" crossbars. I'm concerned that it's not long enough to allow for two kayaks. I've written emails to a couple of online sellers of racks, but I haven't received anything back.

One additional question I have about carrying kayaks on the roof racks is where do you secure the bow/stern safety straps to the front and rear of the V-50?

p.s. I've only had my '05 V50 T5 AWD for a month and I'm still learning a lot. So far I'm happy with it (my first Volvo.)

I've been researching and buying Yakima rack parts for the last month. It's hard to find, but Yakima says you need the 58" inch bars to load two kayaks upright... which is what I'm doing with (2) Hobie Revolutions. I haven't found a good solution for the bow and stern straps, so I'm using the Mako Aero Saddles in front and rear and probably not using the straps... I think the boats are about 13 or 14 feet long. I've read somewhere that some fix a bow strap attachment point under the hood, but I wonder if there's room for that and I think it would put some wear on the paint. Others suggested using the tow hook through the bumper attachment... a possibility if you really need the straps.
