To make a long stoy short I just bought a 2000 V70 XC with 69,000 miles and it has these cross bars that make a lot of noise travelling down the interstate. I have no information on how to take these off. There is a hole at the end of the bar and I have tried several allen wrenches but none seem to fit. How do I get these things off????????

The one I saw being sold at a dealership as pre-owned have a housing that can be popped-open. The hinge is at the top so if you pull it towards you from the bottom portion , it will open upwards. May need to jimmy it a little. Then inside this housing is where the mechanism to tighten it is located.

Not sure if what you got is the same model though.
