I will officially RSVP if we can move the location south a bit. Wisconsin is awefully far North for a Midewest meet. Missouri, Illinois, or Iowa and I'm down.

I would be there if it were a more central location.... I'm almost in PA... but not close enough to take part in the PA/ east coast Volvo events which it would seem are mostly in Philly. Chicago would work though

Hey if we are going to do Rockford we may as well do Chicago. Only a couple miles away and for some people it may be nice to turn it into a vaction. I plan to bring a couple friends.

I've never been to one either. Basically just an afternoon of volvo enthusiasts and grilling out. I'm kind of a noob too, so don't worry about it.

Maybe we can do the meet on saturday, and then see if some people want to go to chicago after the meet or something? I just think it would be easier for everyone to meet at the park.

ever drive through chitown? if so, no picture that with 20-30 volvo's with half the people not knowing where they are going.... on a busy saturday.... that is why we are doing it in rockford, but i am not apposed to taking a drive through chitown maybe.

a meet is basicly just a bunch of people getting together to hang out, maybe some volvo talk, and a meet and greet. grill out in the park, maybe some yard games (minimal drinking, after all its a car meet). then afterwards some may camp, drive home, or catch a hotel.

if people want to camp, or get a hotel I would be game for that. But yeah, that's what I was thinking with having it not be in chicago, is a bunch of people that haven't driven there, especially with crew of cars, would make it even harder. I have some yard games I could bring. And I can bring some food and stuff too. I think everyone should be in charge of bringing something. But it would be nice to have something for people who are for sure going to RSVP to so we have an idea of how many people and whom.

What about Aurora Ill. It saves people east about an hour and avoids the godawful mess that is Chicago and It doesn't add much to the northern folk. Also Wanes World.

Someone has never been to Chicago.... Now, in a national poll us Clevelanders are the nicest drivers in America (tied with Portland), so maybe I'm a little biased but.... Driving through Chicago is like Driving through the seventh rung of hell with a red hot poker up your ass. The roads have pot holes a mile deep and it would seem that the majority of Chicago drivers think the freeway is THUNDER DOME: IF YOU AINT BLEEDING YOU AINT DOING IT RIGHT because they are the most aggressive drivers I have ever seen. In a 20ft box truck going 15mph above the speed limit just to keep up I had people in everything from POS honda civics to S-Class benz trying to drive me off the road. I spent a week there and every day there was some incident on the road that made me :eek: :confused: :mad: . Anything to avoid Chicago would be the best.

Also, I would totally be down to camp. I have a couple of extra tents if anyone is interested, but those of us with wagons don't need no stinking tents :cool: ... well I might but thats because I'm 6'6" and I have to lay diagonal in my wagon to fit so we will see

Alright, I would like it to be known that there is an Rx Bandits concert in Chicago on Aug. 6th and again in Minn on the 9th... I would really like to see RxB as I am a huge fan, and I know the other guy from Cleveland is a ska fan so he would most likely be down to see that show. I don't know about y'alls taste in music but a Volvo meet up/ concert event would be pretty kick ass. These are my thoughts, do with them what you'd like.

August 15 is my move in date for an apartment so that date would be dicey for me.

Went to a pizza place yesterday where a friend was waiting for me. I had to pop my hood to put a nipple back on my turbo tree after running some tests. Some dude with a girl walks by about 30 feet from us and says "Hey, nice volvo".

My friend and I had a laugh later about it because we couldn't tell whether or not to take him seriously. The whole time eating we were pondering this question. lol. I have a feeling it was sarcastic because he looked like a punk but there was no sarcastic tone in his voice.

We took it as sarcasm but there was really no need for it. I know the guy thinks I was trying to show off my motor but I was just doing maintenance.

Just yesterday I saw a nissan altima, an older one (2000ish) not the newer ones with the beefed up engines, sporting black flames, a queer body kit, and he f*cking tore some of his bumper off so you can see his radiator. Not an intercooler, an ugly old rusted radiator. And I know it wasn't the result of an accident because it was a clean cut throught the bumper. He was cruising at 30 mph in a 40 mph zone. He was either trying to flaunt his whip or that was his top speed, not sure.

We have a good number of ricers here too, a lot of hondas with cut off springs and like you said some lame ass body kit. A lot of Acura Integras, I hate those cars so much. Probably his top speed.

Rockford is about 3.5 hours from me I believe. Not sure if I can make it or not. I'd obviously like to take the Volvo and I'm not about to show up to a Volvo meet in a 76 Celica (even though its a sweet ass car).

Sorry everyone i could not make it. i work 3rd shift so i went home to take a nap and slept through my alarm

so how did it go today? i really wish i could of been there :(

It was a pretty poor turnout. I had my car, my dad had his, and then a couple people from volvospeed came, red S70 T5M and an S60 R. Was kind of disappointing.

whaaaaaaat. thats not cool. we need to setup another one and post it everywhere and have a set place and time when you make the post that will help the turnout

I put the location on the other forums the same time I did on here. And everyone knew that it was in Rockford. So I don't think that was the problem. Talking to the guys that did come, it sounds like a lot of the midwest meets are like this, a lot of people say they're going to come and then don't.

I believe it was really bad timing. A lot of kids going off to college (like me) need to consider getting ready and can't afford to spend a weekend away. Also for people with kids, I know a lot who went shopping for their kids over that weekend because it is the last free weekend before their kids start school.

Even if my Volvo was not currently up for sale, I probably still could not have made it personally because a lot of my college friends start this week and this last weekend was their last opportunity to hang out.

Maybe next summer in the middle of July would be great or even late June would be perfect. Crossing my fingers and hoping my bro doen't sell off the Volvo by then :)

Until then.... stay hard on the pedal and run it like it was made to be run.
