I have a 1992 965 with 279,000 km on it. Use it for winter and in summer for load hauling - very nice. Too bad they're all automatic.
Look deep down at the firewall on the driver's side, just beside the engine. You'll see a yellow plug with a 1/2" square depression in it. This is the transmission dipstick! It's held in place by a spring clip and seals with an o-ring. Turning it a little and pulling up will get it out.
You can use a 1/2" socket drive extension as a handle so you don't have to stick your hand in so far when the engine is running. Crazy design.
garyw38 07-30-2004, 03:44 PM Got my first volvo its a 1995 960 sudan a cool car ,but where do you check the transmission fluid at Im used to american engines a picture or detailed message will be most helpfull thanks alot!!
garyw38 07-30-2004, 03:47 PM There is no transmission dip stick for your car. The transmission is a sealed unit. It is serviced at a transmission shop, or the dealer. Once serviced it does not need to have fluid check every so often unless you have a leak or a problem eith the transmission. The Jesda 10-09-2004, 02:18 PM There is a dip stick for the transmission as Chuckcolomb said, it has has yellow top held secure by a side mounted spring on the tube which goes into the gearbox casing. I recently had my transmission fluid changed and watched the workshop check the level using it. Regards Darren:eek: |
