Hi everybody,

I need your helps in order to understand which ignition spark is the correct one for my s40 1.6 2001 ? My local dealer changed the sparks and than my car became noisy and less powerfull. I removed the sparks myself and saw that they are all coal black after travelling 2000 km and that it has 3 electrodes. Then, I looked at the online Bosch Car Parts Catalogue
http://ecat-online.bosch.de/toc/ to learn if this sparks is the proper ones or not. In result, the proper Bosch spark plug is “FGR7DQE+”!! Does anybody knows what is that? http://www.boschusa.com/images/designationcodes.jpg here I find a table to describe the types of spark plugs and I find that it is an “Yttrium Super Plus” with 4 electrodes. Here is the concerning page: http://www.boschautoparts.co.uk/pcPlug2.asp?c=2&d=1 .

My questions:
1- Could anybody knows if the original volvo plug have 3 electrodes or not? If not, I will be sure that the local volvo dealer made an error and mounted the wrong spark plug on my car.
2- Could anybody give his/her opinions, if experienced the Bosch spark plug “FGR7DQE+” ?
3-Could anybody say the right spark plugs with part&model numbers for s40 1.6 ??? (which type, how many electrodes, electrode gaps measure etc etc??)

PS: All ideas about the subject will be appreciated, please HELP ME!!!!

My workshop manual suggests Bosch FGR 7 DQE 0 with a gap of 1.4mm.

If the deposits were hard black & not oily, then maybe the fuel/air mixture is too rich. Bearing in mind your previous problems with the dealer installing incorrect software causing idling speed problems, I suspect that this is what has caused the engine to run too rich.
