Any one can list tools neded to change brakes on '05 XC90 V8?
I want to know what I need to remove the caliper bolts -torx or allen and what size.
I am going to do both front and rear brakes.
PS
I just ordered Akebono ceramic brake pads -can't stand the dust on 18" Atlantis wheels -those are not easy to clean.
Thx
You will need a 6 or 7 MM allen wrench socket. (Forget the exact side I know my socket and just grab it)
Also a straight screw driver,Pliers,Something to push the caliper back(Big pair of channel locks)
And some silicon grease.

Well my 2006 is now just two days old and 145 miles and the front Atlantis Chrome wheels are now black... I guess this is going to be a chronic problem? Oh no its the new body style Expedition all over again!!

yes, volvo makes pads that will color your rims.
I will update after I change to ceramic stuff.
Wonder, what a volvo tech (tech -where are u?) would say about using aftermarket ceramic pads, or anyone else who already used them.
EDIT it is a 7MM allen socket.
Me I like the OEM pads.

First, thanks for update.
Yes, I realized it from your previous posts (OEM parts are the best replacement-you cannot go wrong).
If you had to clean the wheels on Volvo cars, would you still recommend OEM pads?
PS
I am using Rybestos ceramic pads on my 850, they do not feel as "good" as OEM -takes more effort/pressure on the pedal, but-NO RIM CLEANING!
PSS
You would not remember if same socket is good for rear calipers on XC90?
Thanks again
I believe it is the same socket.
Yes I would clean my rims rather than using the ceramic pads.
I always buy the softest pads I can find for my cars. (Which are not Volvo's but would use OEM on a Volvo.)

Akebono claims that their EURO pads are very gentle on rotors wear -is it an idication of the soft material?
They do feel "soft" -pedal does not need much pressure at all, and brakes feel no different from OEM. Maybe, the Rybestos pads are made of harder material - I did not even know about Akebono when I put Rybestos on my 850.
PS
Just checked -Akebono pads are available for 850 too, a bit more money then Rybestos.
I would say yes Softer pads.
